Terms of Use

These terms are an agreement between you and AstroOwl ("AstroOwl," "we," "us") covering your use of the AstroOwl app and website. By downloading or using AstroOwl, you agree to them. We've kept them short and in plain English — but they're still binding.

Using AstroOwl

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use AstroOwl on devices you own or control, for your own photography. In return, you agree not to copy, sell, rent, sublicense, or redistribute the app; not to reverse-engineer or modify it except where the law expressly permits; and not to use it in any unlawful way, including trespassing to reach a shooting location or operating equipment where it isn't allowed.

You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live (or have a parent or guardian's consent) to use AstroOwl.

Free tier and AstroOwl Pro

The core planner and simulator are free, with limits — for example, a monthly cap on simulations and AR sessions, a cap on saved plans, and a watermark on free simulations. AstroOwl Pro removes those limits and unlocks camera control and related features. We may adjust what's included in the free tier and in Pro over time; we won't remove a feature from a lifetime purchase you've already made without providing a reasonable equivalent.

Purchases, subscriptions, and renewals

AstroOwl Pro is offered as an auto-renewing monthly or yearly subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase. All purchases are billed by the app store you bought them through (Apple App Store or Google Play), not by us. Prices are shown in the app before you buy and may vary by region; the store may also change local pricing to reflect taxes or currency.

• Payment is charged to your App Store or Google Play account when you confirm the purchase.
• Subscriptions renew automatically unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the current period ends.
• Manage or cancel anytime in your App Store or Google Play account settings — deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep Pro until the end of the period you've paid for.
• Free trials, if offered, convert to a paid subscription unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Any unused trial time is forfeited when you purchase.
• Refunds are handled by the store under its policies — request them through Apple or Google. We can't issue App Store or Play refunds directly.

The lifetime purchase is a one-time payment that unlocks Pro for as long as we offer AstroOwl — it is a license, not ownership of the software, and "lifetime" refers to the life of the product, not yours.

Your responsibilities

• Planning data is an estimate. Sky positions, darkness windows, night quality scores, light-pollution estimates, and weather forecasts are calculated or sourced from third parties and can be wrong or out of date. Verify conditions yourself before committing a night to a shoot.
• Night shooting has real risks. You are responsible for your own safety — terrain, wildlife, weather, driving, and access permissions at any location you choose. AstroOwl suggests when and where the sky is good; it doesn't make a location safe or legal to visit.
• Camera control is at your own risk. The app sends commands to your camera over your local network. You're responsible for your equipment, its settings, its batteries and storage, and the shots you take. We don't guarantee compatibility with any particular camera body, lens, or firmware version.
• Your content stays yours. Plans, recipes, and gear you create in the app are stored on your device and remain yours. Your photos never pass through us.

Intellectual property

AstroOwl, including its design, code, name, and owl mark, is our property and is protected by copyright and other laws. These terms don't grant you any rights in it beyond the license above. Third-party data and imagery in the app (for example, star catalogs and sky imagery) remain the property of their respective owners and are used under their licenses.

Warranties and liability

AstroOwl is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any forecast, score, or calculation will be accurate.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages — including missed shoots, lost photos, damage to equipment, travel costs, or lost profits — arising from your use of AstroOwl. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the app in the 12 months before the claim arose. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you; nothing here excludes liability that can't legally be excluded.

App store terms

Your purchase and download are also governed by the terms of the store you used (Apple's Media Services Terms or the Google Play Terms of Service). Apple and Google are not parties to these terms and have no obligation to provide support or maintenance for AstroOwl, but Apple (and its subsidiaries) is a third-party beneficiary of these terms and may enforce them against you. You represent that you're not located in an embargoed country and are not on any government restricted-parties list.

Termination

You can stop using AstroOwl at any time. We may suspend or terminate your license if you materially breach these terms. Sections that by their nature should survive — including intellectual property, warranty disclaimers, and limitation of liability — survive termination.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as AstroOwl evolves. We'll post the new version here and update the "Last updated" date above; material changes may also be noted in the app. Continuing to use AstroOwl after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Nothing in this section deprives you of consumer protections you're entitled to under the mandatory laws of the country where you live.
