Best-nights ranking
Upcoming nights scored on moon, altitude, and weather.
Coming to iOS & Android
The astrophotography companion that takes you from "which night?" to a camera firing the perfect sequence — planning, real exposure simulation, and reliable remote control in one app.
No spam. One email at launch. Sony Alpha supported first.
The problem
Today you juggle a planner, a planetarium, and a trigger app — then re-enter your settings a third time at the camera, in the dark. Nothing carries your intent to the shutter. AstroOwl is one coherent workflow instead.
How it works
The same live GPU planetarium carries continuously from Plan to Compose to Shoot — so the framing you choose never jumps.
01 · Plan
Pick a goal — Milky Way core, Andromeda, a star-trail. AstroOwl shows the sky exactly as it'll look, the target's 24-hour trajectory arc, and a ranked list of the best upcoming nights. Shoot Tuesday, not tonight.
Pick a goal, not a catalog entry. Every target ships with its own night-scoring model and exposure presets tuned for it — so the ranking and the starting settings already fit what you're shooting.
02 · Compose
Your camera + lens's exact frame over the live sky. Pick a technique, dial in ISO / aperture / shutter, and press play — AstroOwl simulates the real exposure, frame by frame: trails, stacking, noise. Then save it as a recipe.
03 · Shoot
AstroOwl auto-reconnects to your Sony over Wi-Fi (one QR scan to pair). One tap fires your saved recipe; the camera runs the sequence natively while AstroOwl tracks live progress — frame count and ETA — right on your phone.
Feature highlights
Upcoming nights scored on moon, altitude, and weather.
A 9,000-star planetarium you can pan, zoom, and scrub in time.
A target's full path — rise, peak, set — drawn on the sky.
Hold your phone up: live camera view with the target's arc overlaid, scrub time to follow its path.
Watch trails, stacks, and noise build up before you commit.
The longest shutter that keeps stars pin-sharp for your gear.
Save settings + framing as recipes, then fire them on the real shoot.
On cameras that support it, sequences run on the body itself — far more reliable.
Scan the camera's QR code to connect — no manual password entry.
Silently re-establishes the camera connection on launch and in the field.
Deep, validated control on a7-series bodies. More camera brands on the roadmap.
Why AstroOwl
One coherent, reliable flow replaces three apps and the mental glue between them — your recipe carries from Compose to the camera with nothing re-entered.
